My friend said to me one summerday the country's no good it stands in the way So the both of us picked ourselves up and to the city we went into the dark part the cheap part and there we did rent There were no trees on the streets no grass on the lanes only boarded up shops tar and concrete and broken glass panes Two white shivering country girls in the back part of town they looked us over up and down Two long days we stayed in the city even wandered to a park My friend said to me the city's no good it's foul smelling and dark So now we are back in the country and know what it means fresh air and grass and trees and just bees that sting

My friend said to me one summerday
the country's no good it stands in the way
So the both of us picked ourselves up and to the city we went
into the dark part the cheap part and there we did rent
There were no trees on the streets no grass on the lanes
only boarded up shops tar and concrete and broken glass panes
Two white shivering country girls in the back part of town
they looked us over up and down
Two long days we stayed in the city even wandered to a park
My friend said to me the city's no good it's foul smelling and dark
So now we are back in the country and know what it means
fresh air and grass and trees and just bees that sting
