Back Next The Community

There they are in the mountain air
longhaired
young and strong
bare-chested to the sun
The women are naked
pear-shaped
orange shaped
banana shaped
sitting by the circle
watching the mean make ice cream
some children stare and want to know
others touch and cry and break the concentration
But here everybody is mother and father
here everything is half paradise
half truth
and Jacob the leader of the band
had the most knowing looks
and the most knowing hands
His presence most symbolizes the God of Youth
The maker of the community
The fixer of what can't work
The moral maker whose ethics is with a soldering iron.
