Back Next The Queen

If only
Mother and Father
you had said to me
just once
when I was a child
in the time
between
the sun and the moon
that you were not
King and Queen
not at all
but only
(and this should have been whispered to me)
the butler and his maid
and then you both
should have curved
your backs even further
and whimpered
even louder at you
servants role
and smelled
even more of garlic
and told me
this
is not my fault
and that
I must not
think
of the words
Mother and Father
with such
awe.
Of if you had only
told me this
I wouldn't not
be so poor.
